Q: What are Livery Stables?

Livery stables are essentially Horse stables, owned privately, but open for other horse owners as a place to house their horse in return for a fee. Horse livery yards can vary in size, services and cost, so finding what’s right for you and your horse is essential.

Most livery stables offer grazing, fresh water, Paddocks and stabling as standard for ponies and horses. Whereas others have additional facilities like a Sand Arena, a Lunge Ring, horse walkers, a Gallop and more. Almost all livery yards provide hay and feed for their stable mates.

Our yard is 5km from the Curragh Racecourse. You can find us here.

Q: Do you have places available at your Livery yard?

Yes. Please feel free to contact us here to discuss availability of our Horse Livery service in 2022.

Q: Does CDS Equine offer part or full Livery service?

We offer a full Horse livery service, but can be flexible with our clients.

Q: Is your Livery yard secure?

The owners are on-site at all times to muck-out, check, feed and turnout all horses throughout the day and in the evening. CDS Equine has CCTV with triggered recording in addition to security gates, accessible via remote access and lock automatically lock every night. There is also motion sensors and security lighting.

Q: Will my Horse be turned out with other Horses?

No. Paddocks are fenced off separately. Although for clients with more than one horse we can accommodate them in the same Paddock, if requested. All paddocks are cleaned daily by CDS Equine. However, it is the responsibility of the Horse owner to collect and deposit waste in Dungstead while on-site with their horse.

Q: Do you have a Health and Safety policy for your Livery yard?

Yes. All new clients and visitors will be inducted and introduced to our health and safety policy to ensure that we all enjoy our experience in a safe and responsible manner.

Q: Are there toilets in your Livery yard?

Yes. The wash facilities are located adjacent to the main Stable block.

Q: Do you have a tack room at your yard?

Yes. The tack room is secure, with a sink, kettle, mini fridge and a washing machine to launder numnahs and rugs, at a cost of €2 per wash.

Q: Do you have a seating area?

An indoor and an outdoor seating area to sit and enjoy the surroundings with a cup of tea or coffee will be available soon. CDS Equine will adhere to Government guidelines during Covid-19.

Q: What Equine facilities do you have on-site?

CDS Equine have the following facilities:

Q: What size is the Sand Arena at CDS Equine?

The menage is 40m × 30m with a composite surface, a mix of sand and rubber. In the near future the Arena will have flood lighting, training mirrors, markers, and a range of jumps to cater for every horse riders skill level.

Q: Do you have Lunge Ring?

Absolutely. Lunging is a great way to calm your fizzy equine, eliminating bucks and/or kicks by focusing on work, prior to exercise.

Also, lunging offers a practical form of exercise for your fizzy-pal when you’re pressed for time - a quality 20-minute workout without the stress.

Q: What size is the Lunge Ring?

The Lunge ring 15 meters in diameter, made with a composite surface, a mix of sand and rubber.

Q: What size is the Sand Gallop?

The oval Sand Gallop at CDS Equine is approximately 2 Furlongs, located to the North of the site, 50 meters from the main Stable block.

Q: Does CDS Equine have Cross-Country?

Yes, the Sand Gallop at CDS Equine envelopes the Cross-Country Derby Zone that includes various jumps to suit all levels.

Q: Is There a Horse Wash-bay at CDS Equine?

Yes, the Horse wash-bay is located to the rear of the American Barn stable block, between the Horse-walker and lunge ring.

Q: Do you have Cross-Country?

Inside the oval Sand Gallop at CDS Equine is a 2-acre field, a Paddock by day, moonlighting as a Cross-Country area on demand.

Cross Country is a challenge for all athletes, testing courage, stamina, and agility over difficult terrain, regardless of discipline.

So, Yes, CDS Equine have a Cross-Country area on-site.

Q: Do you have a Horse-walker?

Yes. CDS Equine has a 6-horse walker located to the rear of site directly behind the main stable block. Full rubber inner and outer walls and floor with automated paddles and a braking system. A small hourly fee is required to cover the energy and maintenance costs with sustainability in mind.

Q: Do you offer Horse-riding lessons?

Yes, from Spring 2023 CDS Equine will have a fully qualified horse trainer on site to carry out lessons, according to demand.

Q: What Horse-riding levels are catered for?

CDS Equine will offer lessons to beginners across all age groups.

Q: How do I register for Horse-riding lessons?

Simply share your details here and a member of the CDS Equine time will contact you about our forthcoming Horse Riding lessons scheduled in 2023.

Q: Do you offer Pony Camp?

Yes, CDS Equine will facilitate Pony Camps throughout the summer months, from June to August.

Q: What is Pony Camp?

Pony Camp is a fun, action packed Equine experience operated 4 days a week in the summer months for children and teenagers. Every day includes practical lessons - riding lessons, key aspects of pony care, and other horse activities.

Q: Who is Pony Camp for?

Pony camps are designed for young riders to develop their knowledge, confidence and Horse riding skills and in doing so prepare the next generation of riders to care for Horses and ponies.

Q: What are your opening hours?

CDS is open 6-days a week, from 8am to 8pm. However, we can be flexible with customers to ensure that access is available to suit your needs.

Q: Is there parking on-site?

Yes, there are a number of spaces adjacent to the main Stable block. For busy periods CDS Equine also have overflow parking spaces adjacent to main car parking area and to the rear of the site.

Q: What other Equine services do you offer?

We can arrange clipping, worming, dental and farrier services, all of which are available upon request.
